If you have been searching for a coin dealer near Augusta, Georgia, the options in the CSRA are limited and most pay far less than they should. Clemson Coins in Pendleton is the highest buyer and the most trusted and credentialed dealer in the entire region.
Augusta is one of the oldest cities in Georgia, founded in 1736 by James Oglethorpe as a trading post on the Savannah River. Richmond County was formed in 1777, making it one of the original counties of Georgia, and Augusta served as the state capital from 1786 to 1795, a period during which the city was the center of Georgia's political and commercial life. The coins that circulated in Augusta during those early decades, Bust dollars, early gold pieces, and the Spanish milled dollars that remained legal tender well into the 19th century, still surface in Richmond County estate sales today. Augusta's position as a major trading center on the Savannah River meant that hard money from across the Atlantic seaboard passed through the city, and the Augusta National Bank and other early financial institutions issued national bank notes that are now actively sought by currency specialists.
The Augusta Canal, completed in 1845, powered a network of textile mills that transformed Augusta into one of the South's leading industrial cities in the antebellum era. The mill families who built Augusta's industrial economy accumulated wealth in the form of pre-1933 gold coins and pre-1964 silver coins that were passed down through generations and now surface in Richmond County estate collections. The Augusta Chronicle, one of the oldest continuously published newspapers in the South, documented the city's commercial and financial history through the Civil War era, the Reconstruction period, and the prosperous decades of the early 20th century. Confederate currency and obsolete banknotes issued by Georgia state banks circulated widely in Augusta during the Civil War, and these notes are now collected by currency specialists who pay strong premiums for fine examples.
The Augusta National Golf Club, established in 1933 and home of the Masters Tournament since 1934, brought national and international attention to Augusta and attracted wealthy patrons whose estates now represent some of the most significant numismatic collections in the Southeast. The Masters Tournament has drawn collectors, investors, and affluent visitors to Augusta every April for nearly a century, and the city's reputation as a destination for the wealthy has shaped the character of its estate collections. Fort Gordon, established in 1917 and now home to the Army Cyber Command, brought successive generations of military families to Richmond County, and military families are among the most consistent accumulators of coins and currency from the regions where they served.
Today, Augusta and Richmond County are known throughout the Southeast for the Masters Tournament, the Medical College of Georgia, and the Army Cyber Command at Fort Gordon. Richmond County estate collections reflect that layered history: early Bust and Seated Liberty silver from the colonial and antebellum eras, national bank notes from the Augusta National Bank and other Richmond County institutions, pre-1933 gold coins accumulated during the prosperous 1920s, and pre-1964 silver coins saved through the textile and military eras. When those collections surface, Clemson Coins in Pendleton is the buyer Richmond County estate attorneys and families trust. Clemson Coins is the only PCGS, NGC, PMG, and CACG authorized dealer in the Upstate, and the approximately 2 hour 15 minute drive from Augusta via I-20 West and I-85 North makes us the most credentialed serious coin buyer accessible to Richmond County. Not all coin dealers are the same. Here is what you should look for before you walk in the door.
A reputable dealer will be authorized by the major grading services and industry organizations. At Clemson Coins, we are the only dealer in the region with all of the following authorizations:
Most coin dealers, pawn shops, and gold buyers pay only melt value, the raw metal content of your coin. A true numismatist knows that a 1916-D Mercury Dime, a 1921 Peace Dollar, or a 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent are worth far more than their face value and/or metal content alone. We pay numismatic premiums on coins that deserve them, and we have the expertise to recognize them.
You should never have to wait for your money. When you sell to Clemson Coins, you walk out with cash or check in hand the same day. There is no waiting, no mailing, and no uncertainty about when you will get paid.
We purchase a wide range of coins, currency, and precious metals. If you are not sure what you have, bring it in. We look at everything at no charge and with no obligation.
Liberty Head and Saint-Gaudens double eagles, eagles, half eagles, and quarter eagles. Richmond County estate collections regularly surface these from Augusta's prosperous banking and textile eras.
Half dollars, quarters, dimes, and dollars from the silver era. We pay full numismatic value, not just melt weight.
American Gold and Silver Eagles, Krugerrands, Maple Leafs, bars, and rounds at competitive prices.
We identify and pay numismatic premiums on key dates that most Augusta-area buyers miss entirely.
Augusta National Bank and other Richmond County national bank notes are actively collected. We pay strong premiums on these scarce Georgia issues.
Large-size notes, silver certificates, gold certificates, Confederate currency, obsolete banknotes, and Georgia state issues.
14k, 18k, and 22k gold jewelry, sterling silver flatware, old mine cut diamonds, and gold watches at fair market prices.
We purchase entire collections in one transaction. No cherry-picking. Richmond County estate attorneys and trust officers refer clients to us regularly.
In Richmond County, Clemson Coins actively purchases pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coinage, national bank notes from Richmond County banks, Confederate currency, and sterling silver flatware. If you have inherited a set of sterling flatware, a silver tea service, or individual sterling pieces, we pay full melt value and more for recognized patterns.
Many estates today also include American Silver and Gold Eagles in both mint state and proof examples, proof and mint sets, specialty sets, complete and partial sets of Indian Head cents, Lincoln cents, all dimes, quarters and half dollars, and of course Morgan and Peace dollars.
If you are working with an estate attorney or trust officer in Richmond County, we are happy to provide a written appraisal and work directly with counsel to facilitate a smooth transaction.

"JUST GO TO CLEMSON COINS! Hands down the BEST buyer for your jewelry & coins! I went to a few other places that were enroute to Clemson Coins , let's just say I was offered between 20% and 40% melt value at the other places. Within 5 minutes and no goofing around with acid tests (they have an XRF machine) I was offered more than a reasonable percentage of melt value from Clemson Coins. Don't get GOT at the other places! Worth the drive from Charlotte, NC if that tells you anything! Honest people are hard to find! I won't go anywhere else from now on!"

"My wife Michele and I stopped by on a whim and spoke with Joe the owner. First of all the shop is fantastic and well stocked with a variety of silver to numismatics. As for Joe and his staff. They were very friendly and knowledgeable. They just gained a customer for life. But who holds down the shop are the adorable Yorkies. We will definitely be back asap. Thank you the great experience.
