The Definitive Buyer's Resource
50+ years of experience. The largest rare coin inventory in Upstate SC.
PCGS, NGC, CAC & CACG authorized dealers.
Buying coins online — through eBay, Heritage Auctions, or APMEX — is convenient, but it comes with real risks: misrepresented grades, counterfeit coins, buyer's premiums of 20–25%, and no one to answer your questions. When you buy from a local dealer, you examine the coin in hand, get expert guidance, and pay a fair price without auction fees.
At Clemson Coins, Currency and Bullion in Pendleton, SC, we carry one of the largest and finest numismatic and bullion inventories in Upstate South Carolina — and probably all of South Carolina. Our inventory turns over constantly because we buy collections every week. Fresh material arrives regularly.
We are PCGS, NGC, CAC, and CACG authorized dealers. Every certified coin we sell is genuine. Every raw coin we sell has been examined with 50+ years of experience and verified with our XRF analyzers.

A certified coin has been professionally graded, authenticated, and sealed in a tamper-evident plastic holder (called a "slab") by an independent grading service. The grade is printed on the holder and cannot be altered without breaking the seal.
The major grading services are PCGS, NGC, CAC, CACG, ANACS, and ICG. PCGS and NGC are the most widely recognized. CAC and CACG add an additional layer of quality verification — a CAC or CACG sticker on a PCGS or NGC coin means an expert has confirmed the coin is solid for its grade, which typically adds a 10–30% premium.
We are authorized dealers for PCGS, NGC, CAC, and CACG — meaning we know exactly what certified coins are worth and we price them accordingly.
Buyer's Tip:
Never crack a certified coin out of its holder unless you are absolutely certain of what you're doing. The holder is part of the coin's value. A coin removed from a PCGS or NGC slab loses its certification premium immediately.
Not all coins are created equal as investments. Investment-grade coins are typically PCGS or NGC certified in MS-65 or above — sometimes lower grades for key dates where the population is small. These coins have historically held and grown in value because collector demand is strong and supply is finite.
We specialize in investment-grade certified material and can advise you on building a numismatic portfolio based on your goals and budget. Whether you're investing $5,000 or $500,000, we can help you allocate intelligently across series, dates, and grades.

| Category | Clemson Coins | eBay / Online Auctions |
|---|---|---|
| Authenticity | Examined in hand — we guarantee every coin | Photos only — counterfeits and misrepresented grades are common |
| Price | Competitive — we buy direct so overhead is lower | Buyer's premiums of 20–25% on auction sites add significant cost |
| Grading Accuracy | We grade with 50+ years of experience | Seller's grade may be optimistic or inaccurate |
| Returns | We stand behind every coin we sell | Return policies vary widely; disputes are common |
| Speed | Walk out with your coins same day | Shipping takes days; damage in transit is a risk |
| Expertise | Ask questions — we'll give you honest answers | No one to ask; descriptions are often generic |
The grade of a coin is the single most important factor in its value — more than the date, the mint mark, or the series in many cases. A 1921 Morgan dollar in MS-60 might be worth $50. The same coin in MS-65 CAC could be worth $5,000 or more.
When you buy a certified coin from us, the grade is guaranteed by PCGS or NGC — two of the most respected grading services in the world. You're not relying on our opinion or a seller's optimistic description. The grade is independent and verified.
For raw coins, our 50+ years of experience means you're getting an honest assessment of what you're buying. We don't overgrade to make a sale — our reputation depends on repeat customers and referrals.
Read Our Full Grading GuideGold and silver bullion coins are one of the most straightforward ways to own precious metals. Unlike numismatic coins, bullion coins are priced primarily on their metal content relative to the current spot price — with a small dealer premium above spot.
We carry American Gold and Silver Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs, South African Krugerrands, Austrian Philharmonics, Chinese Pandas, and silver bars in all sizes. Because we buy collections constantly, we often have bullion available at very competitive premiums above spot.

Whether you're a first-time buyer or an experienced collector, we can help you find the right coins for your goals and budget. Coin collecting is one of the few hobbies where your collection can actually appreciate in value over time — especially if you focus on quality over quantity.
Start With What You Love
Morgan dollars, Lincoln cents, pre-1933 gold — collect what interests you. Passion drives the best collections.
Buy the Best You Can Afford
One MS-65 coin is worth more than ten MS-63 coins of the same type. Quality always wins long-term.
Focus on Certified Material
PCGS and NGC certified coins are easier to sell, easier to price, and command premiums over raw coins.
Consider CAC/CACG Approval
For investment-grade coins, CAC and CACG approval adds a meaningful premium and confirms quality.
