Greenville and Spartanburg County's Highest-Paying Buyer
Just 45 minutes from Greer via I-85 South, Clemson Coins in Pendleton is the most credentialed and highest-paying coin and gold dealer in the region. We pay full numismatic value on every piece we buy.
Greer occupies a unique position in the South Carolina Upstate, straddling the boundary between Greenville and Spartanburg Counties in a way that has shaped its commercial and social character since the town was first platted in the 1870s along the Spartanburg and Asheville Railroad. The community was named for A.M. Greer, an early settler whose family was among the Scots-Irish and English farming families who had been working the Piedmont soil since the Cherokee land cessions of the late eighteenth century. The railroad transformed what had been a rural crossroads into a genuine commercial town, and by the 1880s Greer had a courthouse, a post office, a bank, and the kind of merchant class whose prosperity expressed itself in gold jewelry, silver flatware, and coin collections that have been passing through family hands ever since. The Greer State Bank and other local banking institutions issued currency that is now actively collected by South Carolina paper money specialists, and the Confederate currency and early national bank notes that surface in Greer-area estates are among the most interesting items we encounter from this part of the Upstate. The farming and mercantile families who built Greer in the late nineteenth century accumulated pre-1933 gold coins and pre-1964 silver coins in quantities that still surface regularly in estate sales and probate proceedings across both Greenville and Spartanburg Counties.
The textile industry that swept through the Upstate in the early twentieth century transformed Greer just as it transformed every town along the railroad corridor. Mill villages sprang up around the town, and the workers, managers, and professional families who populated them accumulated the kind of modest but consistent savings in silver coins and gold jewelry that now represent the backbone of many Greer-area estate collections. The Greer National Bank and successor institutions issued national bank notes that are collected today, and the prosperity of the textile era left behind generations of savers whose collections have been moving through estate sales and inheritance since the mills began closing in the 1970s and 1980s.
The arrival of the BMW Manufacturing plant in nearby Spartanburg County in 1994 began a transformation of the Greer area that accelerated through the 2000s and 2010s. The BMW plant and its constellation of international suppliers brought engineers, executives, and professional families from Germany, Japan, South Korea, and across the United States to the Greer corridor, and the retail and residential development that followed along Highway 29 and Interstate 85 made Greer one of the fastest-growing communities in South Carolina. The Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, located in Greer, became a major regional hub, and the combination of airport access, BMW employment, and affordable housing drew a new professional class to the area whose estate profile is quite different from the old textile families but equally rich in coins, gold, and precious metals.
Today Greer is one of the most dynamic small cities in South Carolina, with a revitalized downtown, a growing arts and restaurant scene, and a population that reflects both its deep Upstate roots and its new international character. The layered estate landscape that results from generations of textile-era savers, old Piedmont farming families, and the newer professional class brought by BMW and the airport makes Greer one of the most productive sources of coin and currency collections in the region. Clemson Coins in Pendleton is just 45 minutes away and is the only PCGS- and NGC-authorized dealer in the Upstate with the expertise and financial strength to pay full numismatic value on every piece. Not all coin dealers are the same. Here is what you should look for before you walk in the door.
A reputable dealer will be authorized by the major grading services and industry organizations. At Clemson Coins, we are the only dealer in the region with all of the following authorizations:
Most coin dealers, pawn shops, and gold buyers pay only melt value, the raw metal content of your coin. A true numismatist knows that a 1916-D Mercury Dime, a 1921 pre-1964 silver dollar, or a 1909-S VDB Lincoln cent are worth far more than their face value and/or metal content alone. We pay numismatic premiums on coins that deserve them, and we have the expertise to recognize them.
You should never have to wait for your money. When you sell to Clemson Coins, you walk out with cash or check in hand the same day. There is no waiting, no mailing, and no uncertainty about when you will get paid.
We buy coins, currency, gold, silver, and jewelry from individuals, estates, and families across Greenville and Spartanburg Counties.
Liberty Head and Saint-Gaudens double eagles, eagles, half eagles, and quarter eagles. Greenville and Spartanburg County estates regularly include these.
Half dollars, quarters, dimes, and dollars from the silver era. We pay full numismatic value, not just melt weight.
American Gold and Silver Eagles, Krugerrands, Maple Leafs, bars, and rounds at competitive prices.
We identify and pay numismatic premiums on key dates that most Greer-area buyers miss entirely.
Large-size notes, silver certificates, gold certificates, Confederate currency, and obsolete banknotes.
14k, 18k, and 22k gold jewelry, sterling silver flatware, and gold watches at fair market prices.
We purchase entire collections in one transaction. No cherry-picking. Greer estate attorneys refer clients to us regularly.
We pay strong premiums on certified coins. As authorized dealers for both services, we know exactly what they are worth.
From Greer and Greenville County estates, we regularly purchase: pre-1933 gold coins, pre-1964 silver coinage, national bank notes from Greenville County banks, Confederate currency, and sterling silver flatware.
Many estates today also include American Silver and Gold Eagles in both mint state and proof examples, proof and mint sets, specialty sets, complete and partial sets of Indian Head cents, Lincoln cents, all dimes, quarters and half dollars, and of course Morgan and Peace dollars.
If you are working with an estate attorney or trust officer in Greenville County, we are happy to provide a written appraisal and work directly with counsel to facilitate a smooth transaction.

"First time stopping in today and Clemson Coins, Currency, Bullion & Jewelry absolutely blew me away. The owner is awesome: a real straight shooter who doesn't waste anybody's time, including his own. He was knowledgeable, straightforward, answered all my questions clearly, and gave honest advice without any pressure or fluff. I've been to plenty of other coin, currency, and bullion shops around South Carolina, and this place stands out by far. The selection is excellent, everything is clean and well-organized, and he has the best prices period. The owner clearly knows his stuff and runs a great shop with real integrity and an amazing team. If you're in the Upstate or anywhere in SC looking for coins, currency, bullion, or jewelry, do yourself a favor and go see the owner at Clemson Coins. I was extremely impressed on my first visit and will definitely be back. Best in the state, hands down."

"In closing my parents estate, I discovered old coins my late father had collected. I had no idea what to do and trashing was not an option. I came across Clemson Coins through a Google search and gave it a try. I met Joe and his beautiful wife and both security dogs. Joe was sincere, gracious, honest and very knowledgeable. After looking at my collection of coins, he offered me a number and I was shocked. Joe's heart is in what he does and I could tell. He could have swindled me. Today, I came across an honest businessman and I highly recommend Joe and the business he and his wife have built."

"With all the hype around Whatnot, TikTok auctions, and online coin sales these days, it's refreshing to have a trusted local coin shop right here in South Carolina that's been in business long before any of those platforms even existed. I've done business with the owner and have always had a great experience. The knowledge, honesty, and inventory are hard to beat. If you've been searching eBay, Whatnot, or online auction sites and can't seem to find what you're looking for, there's a good chance these guys got it. Trust me. Whether you're into coins, currency, bullion, or collectibles, Clemson Coins is the kind of place that's built its reputation the old-fashioned way through years of experience and treating customers right. Highly recommended."

"JUST GO TO CLEMSON COINS! Hands down the BEST buyer for your jewelry & coins! I went to a few other places that were enroute to Clemson Coins — let's just say I was offered between 20% and 40% melt value at the other places. Within 5 minutes and no goofing around with acid tests (they have an XRF machine) I was offered more than a reasonable percentage of melt value from Clemson Coins. Don't get GOT at the other places! Worth the drive from Charlotte, NC if that tells you anything! Honest people are hard to find! I won't go anywhere else from now on!"
Many customers have told us they visited a local buyer first, received a number, then drove to us and walked out with significantly more money. We hear that story every day.
